Synthetic single-crystal sapphire wafers (substrates) or sapphire windows
can be used for fused- silica(quartz glass) wafers or windows in the semiconductor
industry, owing to their high thermal resistance (over 2000 degrees cercius)
and their good optical transmission for wavelengths from IR to UV ranges.
Sapphire has high Mohs hardness -- comparable to diamond -- so not so many
companies can polish sapphire single crystals with surface quality as precise
as for glass or fused silica, especially for large wafers used in electronic
and semiconductor industry. We have much experience in polishing large-sized
sapphire wafers and windows, as well as sapphire made tubes, prisms, domes,
special thin wafers, and other shapes. |
